The company recently introduced a new 2-channel component, the PM7005. According to Marantz, this integrated amplifier is packed with superior-quality components, best-in-class materials, the very latest in circuit design and, also, includes an on-board USB-DAC functionality.
According to the published details, the PM7005 delivers 2x80W into 4 ohm loads and includes high-grade audio components, current feedback HDAMs and a high-speed instantaneous current power supply. It also comes with the same high grade speaker terminals as used in the bigger PM8005 for the best possible speaker connectivity.
The included DAC features optical and coaxial digital inputs as well as a USB-B port. This allows users to directly connect a computer to the PM7005 and benefit from its high-quality CS4398-based DAC and its HDAM-SA3 module-equipped audio output stage when streaming audio files. The amp operates as a soundcard for the computer and the USB-B port works in asynchronous mode supporting not only 24bit/192kHz PCM files but also both 2.8MHz/5.6MHz DSD formats. There is also an Analog Amp Mode – which simply switches off the digital section completely for lower noise and better performance through analog sources, since the PM7005 includes 4 line level inputs and a Phono (MM) input to use with a turntable.
