Audio Icons is a limited edition print project created by speaker designer, writer and musician Phil Ward and inspired by classic British Hi-Fi products of the 1970s and 1980s. He has designed numerous Hi-Fi speakers and project managed many Hi-Fi electronics products during spells with Morduant-Short, Canon Audio and Naim Audio. Phil is based in Brighton, UK, and works as a freelance design consultant, technical writer, recording engineer and musician.
Audio Icons kicks off with editions illustrating six iconic amplifiers and nine iconic speakers. Planned future editions include turntables, a second collection of speakers, a second collection of amplifiers, and complete Hi-Fi systems. Editions will be limited to 100 with each print signed and numbered.
According to the press release, the illustrations that comprise Audio Icons are created by using a variety of digital techniques and based on a combination of personal experience, photographic research and manufacturer’s data. The illustrations portray each product as accurately as possible while at the same time capturing their unique personality and the extraordinary creativity, engineering skill and enthusiasm that went into each one.
The 332mm x 484mm (13 in. x 19 in.) prints are made on high quality 200gsm fine art paper and are supplied rolled and ready for framing. Prints retail at £60 each including postage in the UK and EU. More information can be found at the Audio Icons website.
