Composed of two models, Sopra No1, a bookshelf loudspeaker, and Sopra No2, a floor standing loudspeaker, Sopra line inaugurates a new way in the “High-End Premium” group of products taking into account new performance criteria like compactness, modernity, design purity and personalization.
Sopra series feature some innovations from Focal including the Neutral Inductance Circuit (NIC) to stabilize the magnetic field and to limit the distortion, the Tuned Mass Damper (TMD), a technology for optimizing the suspension profile which controls the resonance in order to drastically reduce distortion and increase the definition of bass and midrange and the Infinite Horn Loading (IHL), a design approach that allows for a gradual absorption of the rear wave in the tweeter driver.
Sopra’s structure is articulated around the intermediate section, which, besides giving a very strong identity to the line, is a structural element that contributes to several technical solutions. This injected polyurethane component allows for the upper and lower cabinets to be time aligned, while substantial efforts were made to give the front baffle a smooth profile, particularly around the speaker drivers, to ironing out any aspects which could afflict the acoustics.
Made in France Sopra’s cabinets were designed in Focal's cabinet-making facility in Bourbon-Lancy (Burgundy, France) using the same manufacturing process as for Utopia. The 69mm sandwich-machined front panel uses the same principle as “Gamma Structure” to provide inertia and damping. The inside of the cabinet has no parallel side panels, and small Helmholtz resonators have been added to the lower section to prevent vertical standing waves.
