BDP-LX88 and BDP-LX58 are the legitimate successors of Pioneer's DV-AX10 (from 2000) and BDP-LX91 (from 2008) legendary products. Both players are compliant with the latest HDMI specs, integrate Ultra HD 4K 60p video upscaling and are true heavyweights, built like the proverbial tank.
According to the press release, the customized, ultra-rigid chassis and the equally rigid, quiet disc mechanism are designed to eliminate vibrations, resulting in better signal stability and less jitter. The iron chassis is 1.6 mm thick and is further reinforced with a 3 mm thick iron plate at the bottom. This results in a weight of no less than 13.4 kg for the BDP-LX88 and 9.9 kg for the BDP-LX58. Unique for the BDP-LX88 is the three-chamber construction, in which the power supply section, the digital circuits and the analogue circuits are all housed in separated chambers. This helps to prevent unwanted interference, the company says.
The BDP-LX88 and the BDP-LX58 are compliant with the latest HDMI specs and integrate Ultra HD 4K 60p video upscaling. This means they are equally capable to feed a Full HD display device as well as the latest 4K televisions or projector systems. The integrated video processing circuits can extensively be tweaked and tuned, so it’s possible to optimally match the video output signal of the BDP-LX88/BDP-LX58 with the characteristics of the display device.
The BDP-LX88 and the BDP-LX58 are designed to minimize jitter to a great extent. Owners of one of the many PQLS (Precision Quartz Lock System) compatible Pioneer AV receivers can profit from this original technology, which largely eliminates jitter that might occur in the digital connection path between the devices. In addition to PQLS, the BDP-LX88 is also equipped with a Precision Audio internal clock management system to reduce jitter via the analogue audio outputs.
In the BDP-LX88, a high end Sabre32 ES9018 DAC chip is used and when playing in stereo, the player deploys no less than four DAC circuits for each audio channel. The BDP-LX58 uses a Sabre32 ES9011 DAC chip.
Both players can cope with the latest surround formats from Dolby and DTS, such as Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio. Audio streams containing the newly announced Dolby Atmos multidimensional sound format will be passed to a Dolby Atmos compatible AV receiver.
The BDP-LX88, as well as the BDP-LX58 feature two HDMI outputs. Balanced and unbalanced stereo analogue audio outputs are available on the BDP-LX88, as well as optical and coaxial digital outputs. The BDP-LX58 has unbalanced analogue stereo outputs and a coaxial digital output. Both players also have two USB-ports. One sits on the front panel, while the second port is situated at the back. The LAN port allows connecting the BDP-LX88/BDP-LX58, which are both DLNA compatible, to a home network. This way, YouTube and Picasa can be accessed as well.
