Densen just launched a string of new products with the Cast Amp, their first product to allow streaming, and doing so, by using Googles Cast Audio technology. This will allow for the use of Tidal, which has become the de-facto standard for premium streaming, but also allows for a myriad of other streaming software. The Cast Amp is the first product in Densen's Dino range, which is identified by its half size chassis, compared to the usual Densen products.
Using the Google Cast receiver, the Densen Cast Amp has a dedicated Densen Cast power supply, which is an extreme low noise PSU, to secure that the Google Cast has perfect working conditions. On top of that, the Densen Cast Amp has a dedicated optical input, allowing the Google Cast to perform at its best, with the highest possible data quality. Densen has even developed a dedicated power cord to connect the Google Cast to the Cast Amp. This power cord is shielded, to avoid interference, and securing an optimal performance. One of the great benefits of the Densen Cast Amp design is, that Densen has avoided creating their own software. The digital signal from the Google Cast is converted to analogue using the build in DAC of the Cast Amp.
This DAC is based on Densen's experience with DAC designs, which traces back to 1996. The Cast Amp DAC allows 192/24 streaming and as such is capable of higher resolution than Google Cast delivers at this time, allowing for future upgrades of the Google Cast technology. The converter uses a d/a chip encapsulated in a shielding box, to minimize interference, and optimizing performance as well as high quality components like Vishay metal film resistors and capacitors chosen for their sonic superiority, including Densen's own power supply capacitors. The analogue stage is a discrete design, using ultra fast transistors, and works in Class A. The DAC can be upgraded if needed, without having to change the complete Cast Amp.
The unique part of the Densen Cast Amp, however, is the power amplifier. It is based on the forthcoming Densen B-390 power amp which will be launched by the end of 2017, with a price tag of €40.000,-! The Densen Cast Amp uses the B-390 technology and topology in a scaled down version, and as such the Densen Cast Amp delivers 2x60W in 8 ohm loads and 2x120W in 4 ohm loads.
The Cast Amp is the first product to use a newly developed chassis from Densen, where all parts are made of aluminum, and extruded into shape. This allows the whole constuction to be much more rigid than a normal chassis, and act as heatsink, for optimum heat dissipation, therefore the Cast Amp can run in a relatively high bias current, securing that most of the audio playback taking place in Class A.
The Cast Amp can be used in Google Home installations to implement multi-room solutions, or solely as standalone power amp, in which case it has a 5volt trigger, to make remote power on/off available. The expected retail price for the Densen Cast Amp will be around €3,000. As usually this Densen product will come with a lifetime warranty.
