Pre Box DS2 Digital is a premium preamplifier with five digital, one phono and one line level inputs, featuring four different analogue and one digital outputs. The company says that this is a true high end, one box solution with class-leading features at a very reasonable price, that will please both analog/vinyl lovers and fans of digital audio.
The device makes use of the sophisticated AK4490 D/A converter, from Asahi Kasai Microdevices, together with the complementing sample rate converter (AK4137) and applies upsampling to all incoming digital signals to PCM 768kHz/DSD256, while the Sound Mode button gives the user the possibility to shape the sound to his personal preferences. Three different sound modes and five different digital filters offer no less than fifteen individual listening schemes.
Pre Box DS2 Digital features a phono input for all available MM and MC cartridges, one line level input for any other analogue source as well as lossless wireless sound streaming via aptX Bluetooth. Four analogue outputs (fixed, variable, subwoofer and headphone) together with one digital output (S/PDIF optical) make Pre Box DS2 Digital the most versatile audiophile preamplifier on the market. Pro-Ject says.
The casework uses massive aluminum panels to give an elegant appearance of high value but also to avoid any electrical or mechanical interference. To match Pro-Ject's turntables in design, Pre Box DS2 Digital is available with wooden side panels (rosewood, walnut, eucalyptus) and in black or silver casing.
Prices are €799,- (SRP, for the plain aluminum case) and €899,- (SRP, for the version with wooden side panels).
