With a power output of more than 300W per channel, a new built-in d/a converter and a full set of digital and analogue inputs, the H590 is Hegel's new top-of-the-line amplifier, over the H360. It was unveiled during this year's Munich show and is expected in the last quarter of 2018.
Based on the photos of the new model, Hegel has retained their classic lines, with a simple face-plate and a particularly easy-to-read, monochrome display, but the more interesting details lie inside the amp. The H590 is based on a larger power supply and a more powerful output stage, with twelve pairs of power semis per channel, to deliver 2x301W at 8Ω loads. Following the path that Hegel has drawn some time ago, H590 includes a d/a converter, which is new and, according the published information, it is based on the Mohican CD player (a component that has become accepted with very positive feedback from the market).
Digital inputs include five standard S/PDIF, two of which are coaxial (one featuring a BNC connector) and the three are optical/Toslink, a USB port and an Ethernet RJ45 for wired home network connection. The DAC supports sample rates up to 24-bit/192kHz. During the initial presentation, Hegel did not provide any further information, but it is reasonable to expect that the H590 will support access to local network resources (including NAS devices) via UPnP/DLNA standards and to be able to wirelessly stream through Airplay. An additional feature of the new amplifier is compatibility with MQA encoded files and the H590 is Hegel's first device with this feature.
For analog signal handling, the H590 features five inputs, three of which are single ended (RCA) and two balanced (XLR), while there are, also, two line outputs, one of which is level-adjustable. There is a digital output (via BNC) too.
