With some delay, since we had seen its first prototype in 2016, Lab12's phono preamplifier is now available on the market. The wait was, however, seemingly worthwhile, as the device appears to be quite flexible, fully adjustable and includes a remote control, while, being a Lab12 design, features a tube-based circuit.
The preamplifier is based on two E88CC and two 6N2P tubes, in a non-feedback topology, with the moving coil preamplifier stage featuring Lundahl's step-up transformers. De-emphasis can be selected between three different curves, namely RIAA, Decca and Columbia, while the three available inputs, can be adjusted for capacitance (0-300pF), load (50Ω-47kΩ) and gain (38dB/64dB). Melto2 output is available in both single ended and balanced form.
The preamplifier is fully remotely controlled and the user can see their real-time settings on a large, easy-to-read OLED display.
