Cobra is Audio Note's (UK) latest integrated amplifier, a tube-based device with an additional on-board DAC, featuring the venerable Philips TDA1543 16-bit converter.
The amplifier yields 28 watts per channel from a pair of EL34 valves operating in Class A push-pull configuration. It is capable of driving a wide variety of loudspeakers thanks to its exceptional double C-core output transformers, which are custom designed and manufactured in-house, Audio Note (UK) says. The rest of the circuit features two 6AU6 and two 5670 tubes.
Cobra is equipped with three analogue stereo inputs, and an additional three digital inputs, via the on-board DAC. The digital coax inputs can accept signals up to 24-bit/176.4kHz (native bit-depth for the Philips TDA1543 D/A converter chip is 16bit, so anything above this is truncated down). The optical S/PDIF input can accept signals up to 24-bit/96kHz. The USB input can accept streams up to 16-bit/48kHz.
Cobra features remote volume control, mute and input selection.
