Evo 300 is the first PrimaLuna Hybrid Integrated Amplifier and comes with a PrimaLuna designed tube preamp stage section and a Floyd MOSFET power stage designed by Durob’s Jan de Groot. MOSFETs are the closest in solid-state to tubes and a logical choice for expanding a tube-based only range, the company says. Jan has been designing with MOSFETs as a profession since 1995.
The Evo 300 preamplifier part uses PrimaLuna's well known six 12AU7 double-triode configuration. The Floyd power stage uses paired Linear Systems JFETs and 20N20/20P20 MOSFETs resulting in a 2x100W power rating at 8 Ohm loads. Where possible, hard wiring is used, and if PCBs are needed, the company uses the highest quality PCBs available (2.5mm thick instead of the standard 1.6mm), 105um (usually 35um) gold plated copper tracks. Takman, DuRoch, Nichicon, Alps, Linear Systems, Rubycon, Kemet are some of the component brands PrimaLuna uses in Evo 300.
The Evo 300 preamplifier uses two power supplies (including two separate transformers), while the power stage comes with a single 500VA transformer. The starting point for all the power supplies is PrimaLuna's AC Offset Killer circuit. The amplifier comes with six inputs (5x Line RCA, 1x HT) and outputs (tape out, stereo/mono sub, headphone and speakers, of course). It, also, arrives with a fully shielded heavy-metal sub-chassis for the optional MM phono stage.
According to the press release, construction is extremely solid and robust and puts 25kg net on the scale, while the looks are elegant for such a heavy amplifier.
