The Swiss company announced the introduction of a new turntable. The Reference joins the limited edition Reference Anniversary turntable in Nagra’s flagship Reference line of products.
The Reference turntable was designed as a system, the company says. This means that the turntable and its tonearm were designed to work from the “ground up” as a unified playback system. Careful consideration was given to the development of a tonearm with performance capabilities commensurate with the turntable itself. For those who prefer to supply their own tonearm, Nagra offers a version without a tonearm with arm board options to accommodate most tonearms.
The Nagra Reference turntable features a massive 11kg Swiss made CNC machined, dual decoupled, super-cap motor drive system, with a spheroidal graphite iron shaft/bearing housing and a maintenance free sintered bronze, high temp/pressure oil impregnated shaft bearing comprised of ultra-high polished, stacked carbide balls.
The platter is made from aerospace grade aluminum with a phenolic damping layer and includes an Alcantara-finished surface and a pure copper record weight. Transmission is through a belt, inspired by the legendary Nagra IV series of reel to reel recorders. The turntable uses a non-resonant, high rigidity constrained layer chassis with a floating mechanical and hydraulic suspension.
Reference's tonearm is a uni-pivot design, with a unique geometrical bearing profile and a dual concentric carbon fiber arm-tube. Internal wiring features OCC copper conductors. There is a no-contact magnetic anti-skating mechanism and a camera lens-like “on the fly” VTA adjustment.
Reference uses an external linear power supply, housed in an HD size chassis, featuring an oversized medical grade silent transformer and ultra-low noise regulators.
The Reference is shipping now, with an MSRP at $128K.
