Cyrus'40 series really has hit the ground running, so the 40 PPA needs to be something special to not only join this new range of products but ultimately improve on the phono preamplifiers that have come before, the company says.
About 20 years ago, Cyrus launched the Phono X which quickly established itself as a top performer when it comes to enjoying your favorite records. However, Cyrus managed to take things to the next level with the launch of the Phono Signature around the time of their 30th anniversary. Cyrus says that this product really was a game changer and became a firm favorite, mostly because it performed way above its price point.
The company now, brings themselves right up to date with the arrival of the 40 PPA, a phono preamplifier designed and built upon a foundation of high performance and looks that just wow due to the new 40 series brushed aluminum casing and glass front displays.
According to the press release, this isn’t just a tweak of an existing product, Cyrus created what they believe to be one of the best phono preamplifiers on the market, at any price. The PCB design has had a complete overhaul and increased from 4 to 6 separate layers to help separate those key circuits from each other and decrease noise interference to almost zero, while the power supply has been completely changed to reduce noise by 20% compared to the Classic Phono power supply and gain control is now available in 5dB steps to help the user find that perfect setup.
Speaking of the setup, this can mostly be done via the included remote control and the on-screen menu, so anyone can make the cartridge refinements from the comfort of their chosen listening position, instead of tweak, sit down, listen and repeat. The 40 PPA still allows you to connect up to 4 turntables, with each input capable of both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, with the added benefit of balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA outputs.
The MC inputs are configurable for gain, load and capacitance and the preamplifier features stereo output level meters with peak hold to optimize the MC gain. A “Warp” filter (presumably a subsonic filter) is, also, included, to reduce bass excursion on warped records and a “Ground Lift” switch can be used to help eliminate ground hum problems.
