Combining the respected 3B stereo power amplifier and BP-19 preamplifier into one chassis, the Bi-200 does not compromise on either, rather presenting the performance of both products to the audiophile consumer in a smaller package, the company says.
According to the press release, the new amplifier is meticulously handcrafted in Canada, and reproduces music effortlessly thanks to the finest hand-selected premium components and dual-mono design, producing 200 watts into 8 ohms. Its input array includes two pairs of balanced XLR input jacks and four pairs of RCA input connectors. Additionally, there is one pair of RCA outputs and one pair of XLR outputs, both can be configured as fixed or variable output.
As an option, the RCA 1 inputs can also be specified with a dedicated phono input for moving magnet or moving coil cartridges. A 41dB gain preamp for MM cartridges features Bryston’s own version of the RIAA curve which is one of a kind and is one of the most accurate available, Bryston states. A step-up transformer increases the low voltage input from MC cartridges to a level compatible with the input stage of the standard MM phono section. Customers can specify either a 20dB or 26dB gain option for the step-up transformer at the point of ordering.
Leveraging years of R&D and many design innovations achieved during the development of both the BP-19 and 3B, the Bi-200 is a true fully balanced design from input to output. It uses very tightly matched components and a compact all-analogue signal path to deliver the lowest possible noise and a superior common mode rejection. It also benefits from Bryston’s discrete buffer amplifier for ultra-low THD+N distortion.
For headphone users, the Bi-200 features Bryston’s most powerful on-board headphone amplifier, providing the high-output and critical low-output impedance to drive even the most inefficient designs.
