OTTA (Over The Top Analogue) has announced their first MC cartridge, the OTTA Mandolin. This is a 0.35mV cross-coil design, featuring elliptical stylus and a ruby cantilever. Special attention was paid to the quality of midrange reproduction during development – which should guarantee the most engaging sound, the company says.
OTTA Mandolin has an internal impedance of 5.0 Ohms (the recommended load is within 100–470 Ohms) and is housed in a wooden shell – it is CNC-machined from red sandalwood. The wooden elements cover an aluminum frame with minimal tolerances. The head is equipped with a patented magnetic system with an increased magnetic gap and samarium-cobalt magnets, which guarantee precise uniformity of the magnetic field distribution.
The OTTA Mandolin coils are wound with pure iron wire and have minimal tolerances, which helps to avoid uneven capacity distribution. Each cartridge undergoes extensive quality control after assembly, OTTA states.
According to the published data, compliance is at 15*10-6cm/dyne at 100Hz, and with a mass of 8.4gr, the cartridge is well suited for tonearms with a medium effective mass. Frequency response is 20Hz-25kHz (±3dB).
The OTTA Mandolin will be available for €2,000 euros.
