Show Report (Part 1): PMC - Sonus Faber

PMC showed a BB5 SE, one of the largest loudspeakers the company ever produced. It is a huge stand-mounted design with a 15 inch woofer loaded by a transmission line.

A new turntable from Pro-Ject. The name is Extension 9 Evolution.

Pro-Ject also displayed their full range of "Box" products, one of the most interesting members of which is the Pre Box RS Digital, a preamplifier/DAC that lets the user choose not only the analogue output stage (tube or solid state based) but, also, the type of the converter chip!

PS Audio showed a number of quite interesting products. Among them, the NuWave Phono ADC, a device that digitizes the signal from a phono cartridge and other analog sources and offers a PCM or DSD stream…

… the much talked about DirectStream DAC that applies a 10x DSD upsampling filter to all incoming signals, has a custom d/a converter and is a seriously jitter-immunized design…

… the P10 model in the Power Plant re-generator series with a 1500W load capacity…

… and, finally, the prototype of a small-sized integrated amplifier with a class-D output stage, analogue and digital inputs, headphone output and capable of wireless streaming via Bluetooth, called Sprout. The development of the amplifier (which will deliver50W/channel) lasted two years.

HQ Acoustics displayed their Concept 20.

Questyle showed the CAS192 converter with three different clocks (two for the standard digital inputs and one more for the USB port) and the CMA800R a headphone amplifier that features current amplification topology.

D5 is Raidho's new top-of-the-range loudspeaker. Changes compared to 4.1 include new diamond midrange and woofer drivers as well as new crossover and bass reflex design.

RP10 is, probably, the most interesting Rega turntable we have seen in recent years…

… with a plinth designed for minimum mass and maximum rigidity that is independent from the conventional rectangular outer frame.

Revox has been investing in lifestyle audio systems for a long time and the result is more than just eye-pleasing. Here, the micro system Joy (that supports wireless streaming)…

… the wireless loudspeaker Joy Symphony…

… and the floorstanding loudspeaker Scala 120.

Roksan's Oxygene series seems a particularly ambitious effort. The amplifier of the series delivers 75/150W at 8/4Ohm loads and offers wireless streaming via Bluetooth/aptX.

Atlantis loudspeaker cable from Signal Projects is based upon a hybrid architecture, using a combination of silver, copper and gold conductors. The photo shows an Atlantis connecting an Anima loudspeaker from Tune Audio.

Silbersand introduced their first audio streamer…

… however what stood out in their room was the FM 701, an active four-way floorstander with seven drivers…

… that features a correction technology in the analog domain, based on electromechanical feedback loops. Although this is a technique seen sometimes in large woofers, Silbersand developed a method to sample the movements of the midrange and the tweeter, too. Here is the inductive sensor that is used in the dome tweeter.

Siltech's amplifiers are using the SAGA (Structural Amplifier Gain Architecture) architecture that the company unveiled about two years ago.

One of the most impressive small loudspeakers was this anniversary edition of Ex3ma from Sonus Faber.

The Italian firm also presented the prototype of a new floorstanding loudspeaker the Lilium…

… probably a prototype with a 0000 serial number. Obviously, the speaker will offer adjustable low frequency output to suit the room acoustics.
